I loaded Magnetic using Vista but when I click on the icon, nothing happens.
|
Peter:
Try re-installing and changing
C:\Program Files\Magnetic
to
C:\mulawa\Magnetic
|
|
Magnetic starts ok but when I click on Bert I get "Memory access violation".
|
Peter:
Magnetic is trying to set up your save file in "c:\Program Files\magnetic" when you click on "Bert".
If you're using Vista, try re-installing and changing
C:\Program Files\Magnetic
to
C:\mulawa\Magnetic

I get an error message when I try to apply the multilingual patch.
|
|
Peter:
Delete c:\Program Files\Magnetic\lang - this should fix the problem.

Two players have reported that Magnetic
misbehaves in that the background and sound are ok but overlaid graphics (like the arrows for example)
are blurry.
(Win98 SE DirectX 8.1 NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS Rev A on one, RIVA TNT on the other)
|
Peter:
Apparently this problem is caused by the latest nvidia driver and is cured by going back to an earlier driver version.
Update (Nov 9th 2003): Version: 45.23 didn't solve the problem BUT
a solution has been found. The problem apparently goes away in windowed mode.
I have spent the past week writing a windowed version of Magnetic -
and choose Save - after the download, double click magnetic_windowed.exe
to patch your Magnetic to windowed mode - let me know how it goes.

|
The Magnetic CD starts ok - I see the window shown on the inside cover but when I click
"Play direct from the CD" I get a little error window with the title "CDAutoRun".
|
|
Peter:
Restart the CD and check your DirectX version - it must be version 7 or later.
|
|
The music sounds really "scratchy" on my system.
|
|
Peter:
Getting the music to sound ok on all systems has been a nightmare.
I started with midi format and that played too softly on most systems.
I converted to ogg format and now we have the "scratchy" problem for some folk.
Both are on the final CD.

"... missing export DDRAW.DLL:DirectDrawCreateEx."

|
Peter:
DirectX version 6.1a - need at least v7.0
|
|
"A required .DLL file, DPLAYX.DLL was not found"
|
Peter:
This PC didn't have any DirectX at all!
DirectX is available on the Magnetic CD or the latest version may be downloaded from

"Can't set Graphics Mode"
|
Peter:
This PC had DirectDraw Acceleration disabled - maybe from playing Xiama.
Once enabled all was well.
To check this, click on Start, click on Run..., type dxdiag,
click on the Display tag and check that the buttons look like those in the blue box
